Prime Buzz: Blunt: Health care plan is a "train wreck"

There hasn't been much doubt about where Congressman Roy Blunt stands on health care reform. But just to reiterate, Blunt released this statement today:

"Real health care reform should lower costs, not increase them; should improve care, not lower its quality and availability; and should not cut Medicare for seniors. Americans have made clear they want real health care reform, not a government-takeover, but this Congress is not listening."

Campaign Spot: The Senate Race Numbers That Refuse to Change

At the beginning of the year, next year's Senate race in Missouri, likely to feature Republican Roy Blunt and Democrat Robin Carnahan, looked really tight. And now, in December, it looks... really tight. Rasmussen has Carnahan ahead by 2 percentage points.

Rasmussen has Obama's approval rating splitting 47 percent approve, 53 percent disapproving, so I might be mildly nervous if I were Carnahan. Obama and the Democrats managed to bring out just about every possible voter in 2008, and yet McCain won Missouri by a very narrow margin. Obviously, this one could go either way, but Roy Blunt has to feel pretty good about where he is...

FNC: White House Defends Its Response to H1N1 Outbreak

White House officials defended their handling of the H1N1 outbreak after an uproar over local officials' mistakes and what appeared to be their own misleading comments.

"The president has done everything humanly possible to get ready for this epidemic," White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said Thursday.

Gibbs' comments came just hours after reports that Wall Street giants Goldman Sachs and Citigroup got vaccines for their high-risk workers while some hospitals and clinics are still waiting for it.

"If you're going to prioritize everybody who works in a contained area, maybe you ought to be at elementary schools instead of Wall Street banks," said Rep. Roy Blunt, R-Mo.
