What Others Are Saying

MISSOURI LEADERS

FORMER US ATTORNEY GENERAL JOHN ASHCROFT

"Roy Blunt will represent our heartland values in the United States Senate and I am enthusiastically endorsing his campaign. Born in a doctor's office and brought home to a house without running water Roy had a humble working farm childhood where he learned the importance of hard work and the value of a dollar.

He was the first person in his family to graduate from college and the first to wear a suit to work. Roy was a beloved classroom teacher, a great County Clerk for Greene County, a superb Secretary of State, an effective University President and has provided the highest level of service to the 7th Congressional District."

UNITED STATES SENATOR KIT BOND

“When a farmer or a sheriff or a parent, mayor or a Marine walks into Roy’s office, he understands what they do and what is important to them. And no one understands better how to get things done in Washington. Roy has the desire and the ability to unite our party, no small task given how broad a party we have.

He is also comfortable working in a bipartisan fashion to get things done. I have known and worked with Roy for many years and he is the same man in Washington as he is in Missouri, the same man in private as he is in public. I will do everything I can to support his candidacy.”

CONGRESSWOMAN JO ANN EMERSON

"All across our state, people are asking me how we fight back against the slippery slope of Washington's business-as-usual. I tell them to tell everyone who will lend an ear that we need Roy Blunt in the U.S. Senate."

SENATE MAJORITY FLOOR LEADER KEVIN ENGLER

"So many State Senators are supporting Roy Blunt because he is the strongest candidate to beat Robin Carnahan in the general election. Roy Blunt's achievements as a classroom teacher, local county official, Secretary of State, university president and as a member of Congress make him the best person to represent Missouri common sense and Heartland values in the United States Senate."

MISSOURI STATE SENATOR MIKE GIBBONS

"Here in Missouri we can have an opportunity to make a difference in this country by electing Roy Blunt as United States Senator."

LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR PETER KINDER

"Roy will be ready to fight and win for Missouri in the United States Senate on Day One. He understands the power of conservative ideas and solutions and he knows how to reach across the aisle to achieve real results for Missouri."

MISSOURI STATE SENATOR BRAD LAGER

"With everything that is happening in Washington, it is clear we need a U.S. Senator who understands the process and can hit the ground running on Day One to enact meaningful changes and return checks and balances to the federal government. This is why I'm strongly supporting Roy Blunt for the United States Senate."

UNITED STATES SENATOR JIM TALENT

"Roy Blunt is the right person to draw the contrast between the common sense, conservative good government model that sustained prosperity through most of the last generation and the taxing, spending and borrowing model that now dominates Washington.

We can not go on burdening this generation and mortgaging the next, but that will happen unless we elect Senators who will stand up for growing jobs and the economy instead of government debt. Roy Blunt will do that, and Robin Carnahan won't. I served with Roy Blunt, and I am convinced he will fight for jobs and fiscal restraint, and he's the only one in this race who will. We need Roy Blunt in the United States Senate."

HOUSE MAJORITY FLOOR LEADER STEVE TILLEY

“Roy Blunt is a great Missouri leader who shares our values and ideas. Roy knows we must and will win the war against terrorism. He knows that this runaway liberal Congress must learn what we know in Missouri – that federal spending and uncontrolled deficits must be stopped and controlled, without new taxes that destroy jobs and delay our economic recovery. He knows that America’s greatness tomorrow, as always in the past, will come from the common sense and values of Missourians everywhere, from the largest cities to our smallest towns and our farms."

CAMPAIGN CHAIR ANN WAGNER

"Roy is a wonderful person and a terrific candidate who understands Missouri like no one else. He's a problem solver, consensus builder and highly effective."

OPINION LEADERS

SIKESTON STANDARD-DEMOCRAT

The Sikeston Standard-Democrat wants Missourians to focus now on the critical choice for U.S. Senate in 2010. Publisher Michael Jensen writes that only Roy Blunt has the conservative ideas and proven experience to stand up to the "far left-leaning agenda" now dominating Washington. Robin Carnahan, he writes, is running "on her name and name alone." Jensen: "I seriously doubt she'll waver from the Democratic Party line."

MISSOURI CITIZENS

MELANIE FORREST, COLUMBIA SMALL BUSINESS WOMAN AND FORMER TEACHER

“I’m supporting Roy Blunt because he understands the concerns of my family and all Missouri families. Roy also understands the concerns of small business men and women and he will fight for jobs in our state. As a former educator, I like that Roy got his start as a classroom teacher and served as a university president. The University of Missouri-Columbia is such as an important part of our state and my community, and I know Roy will fight just as hard as Senator Bond to support education in the United States Senate."

J.D. JOHNSON, SPRINGFIELD

"I've noticed the commercial blasting Roy Blunt for voting against the energy bill saying "what were you thinking?" I want to say he was thinking about the needs of the average American taxpayer. He has obviously educated himself on it and understands the negative effects it would have on the economy and sham of the million plus jobs, especially those jobs that would be lost and devastating effect if would have on the average citizens budget. Thank you for watching out for us, Roy!"

CHARLIE KRUSE, MISSOURI FARM BUREAU PRESIDENT

"Roy serves on the Energy and Commerce Committee. And that's the committee that wrote the vast majority of the cap and trade legislation. And it's no surprise to us that Roy Blunt worked as hard as he could to try to get some common sense into this bill and ultimately Roy voted against it because it's a bad bill."

JEANETTE PRENGER, FOUNDER AND PRESIDENT OF ECCO SELECT, A MINORITY AND WOMEN-OWNED SMALL BUSINESS IN KANSAS CITY

“Roy Blunt has had a distinguished career of service to Missouri and I am proud to support him as our next United States Senator. Roy is a good and decent man and one of those rare public servants who will leave behind a legacy of achievements that made a difference for our state. We need Roy Blunt in the United States Senate to pull back the reins on the out-of-control spending by the liberals in Congress and help our small businesses create jobs and economic growth. I also appreciate his background in education, which is critical to job creation and our children’s future. I will be doing everything I can to help Roy Blunt in his campaign for the United States Senate.”

DR. MARK REINTJES OF SIKESTON AND DR. STEPHEN REINTJES OF KANSAS CITY

"We’re convinced unless doctors speak now, Washington is going to force upon us health care reform that "mandates physician participation" yet fails to live up to its purpose -- expanding quality care and lowering costs.  We’re doctors and supporters of Roy Blunt’s campaign for Senate because of his devotion to improve health care for Missourians and all of America."

LISA REITZEL, FORMER PRESIDENT OF CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY REPUBLICAN WOMEN

“Roy has been a consistent advocate for conservative values both in Missouri and in Congress. He has fought for limited government and cares deeply about the rights of the unborn and he will take those values with him to the United States Senate.”

LISA GOEAS, VICE PRESIDENT NATIONAL FEDERATION OF INDEPENDENT BUSINESS FOR POLITICAL OPERATIONS

"Roy Blunt has consistently worked to cut taxes and reduce government spending.  Moreover, he adamantly opposes the cap-and-trade system, citing the devastating impact the legislation would have on small businesses through new taxes and increased government power."

Eddy Justice, Local Insurance Agent

“Congressman Blunt has an understanding that small business is a vital part of our economy. When we improve the environment these small businesses operate in, the economy, as a whole, improves. What small business needs the most is for government to support us rather than impede our progress. I support Congressman Blunt because he sees this fact and will strive to govern accordingly.”
