Roy loves the United States of America because he loves freedom. He is grateful to live in the best and freest nation ever seen in the world.
Roy has a full appreciation of the first and most important duty of the federal government, which is to protect this blessed land from every aggression against its people and their freedom and independence.
What, then, comes first in the federal budget? A strong national defense. On 9/11, we learned again that freedom has enemies, and that the world is more dangerous than we might imagine.
National leadership means assuring that if America must fight to protect our freedoms, then America will prevail.
Roy believes the United States must maintain its resolve in the global war against terrorism. He is deeply concerned about the current administration's willingness to abandon America's proven allies in return for nothing from nations that do not like us. This includes the decision to scrap a key missile defense program that was developed to protect our close allies in Eastern Europe.
With the two wars that are going on now in Iraq and Afghanistan, Roy believes the Obama Administration must keep our security commitments. We must wage these conflicts confidently and smartly, understanding the many tools at our disposal to achieve success and bring our troops home.
Roy Blunt believes America's strongest ally in the Middle East is the democracy in the state of Israel, an alliance that dates back to Harry S Truman. Roy is for standing firmly with this proven ally understanding that all international friendships are not equal. He is committed to ensuring that Israel maintains its qualitative security edge in the region.
Iran's ongoing rush to become a nuclear power poses a terrible danger to the region and certainly to Israel. Roy believes that the United States must not allow Iran or any other dictatorship to develop nuclear weapons that can be used against us or our allies.
He supports and honors with his words and his votes every Soldier, Sailor, Airman, Marine and civilian who serves in the global war against the terrorism that came to the homeland on 9/11. He knows what our nation owes to our veterans and their families for their brave service.
He votes for defense budgets that will assure that American Presidents are able to confront world problems from a position of matchless strength.
Roy has served on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and is a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. He helps oversee national intelligence, the critical first wall in defeating terrorism before it happens.
He supports strongly the work of defense industries that employ thousands in Missouri and across the nation.
In so doing, and above all, he is supporting the men and women who stand guard for our freedom every day, around the world.
To celebrate forever the independence and freedom of the United States, we must first secure it against any adversary, now and for the generations to come. This is the first great duty of the federal government at any time.
When America is strong, our efforts to achieve peace and secure liberty, can be served fully by effective diplomacy. Peace through strength is the policy that puts credibility into American diplomacy.
Freedom has enemies. When such people hear from our leaders, they must understand with no shadow of doubt that the word of the United States is to be taken very seriously, indeed.
